The goal of the conference is to discuss the present state of psychosocial accompaniment during exhumations of clandestine graves and to progress toward the elaboration of minimum standards and an international guide for psychosocial workers who accompany the exhumation process..

The objectives of the Conference are to:

I. Share experiences in psychosocial work both during the exhumation process and during the search for the disappeared, and to relate these experiences to the needs of the people affected.

II. Examine both the historical memory and the official history, and their relationship to exhumations and the search for the disappeared.

III. Examine, from a psychosocial perspective, the role of exhumations in the application of justice.

IV. Integrate ways of approaching the exhumation process (including legal, social, political, psychosocial and anthropological perspectives).
